JON PYE

Director of Operations
Since the age of 10, Jon has had a passion for basketball and has dedicated his career to the sport. He began coaching his first team at the age of 16 and now has 20 years of experience in the field, developing over 1600 players across the province. His dedication comes from the understanding that the sport can teach soft skills that are crucial in the development of youth. From how to effectively deal with stress, how to work as a team, and the importance of goal setting & execution. Jon’s unique approach to coaching leaves youth not just learning the skill of basketball, but knowing how to be a great teammate and leader.

Jon’s coaching career began with the Steve Nash Youth Basketball Program and the YMCA back in 2006. Jon was the Vice President of the St. John’s Amateur Basketball Association for several years and was also hired as the league’s first ever Executive Director back in 2015-2016.

Jon graduated with a Bachelor of Recreation Degree from Memorial University in 2015. He is the Director of Operations for Rock Sports Academy Inc. and also acts as Camp Director. Jon has experience working with Adidas All-Canada Basketball Camps & Point Guard College; some of the most prestigious basketball camps in the country. Jon has worked with the NLBA Provincial & Canada Games Programs & currently acts as Assistant Coach with the Men’s Memorial University Sea-Hawks.

One of Jon’s core pillars is continuous improvement and education; both in his development as a coach and development of the players that he works with. He is continuously taking part in coaching courses and has completed the following NCCP Basketball Coaching Courses so far:
